# Org chart

> Explore your organization's reporting lines and find where anyone sits in the hierarchy

The **Org chart** shows how people in your organization report to one another. It's a visual map of managers and their direct reports, built automatically from the manager information Serval receives when it syncs your users.

## Where to find it

**Organization workspace**

Switch to the **Organization** workspace in the sidebar's workspace switcher, then select **Org chart**. This opens the org-wide view.

**A person's profile**

Open any user's profile and select the **Org chart** tab to see the same map centered on that person.

<Note>
  The org chart is available to everyone in your organization except external guests. Guests who only submit requests don't see it.
</Note>

## The org-wide view

The Organization workspace view shows your whole organization as a single tree of reporting lines. Use **Find a person** to search for someone by name. Selecting a result pins that person's reporting chain into the tree and moves the view to them, so you can jump straight to any part of a large organization without losing the surrounding structure.

## A person's org chart

On a user's profile, the **Org chart** tab focuses on that individual:

* A reporting-line rail lists the person's management chain from the top of the organization down, along with their direct reports.
* The main view can switch between **Lineage**, which shows just this person's chain and reports, and **Entire org**, which places them within the full tree.
* Selecting anyone else in the view opens their details, and their name links to their own org chart, so you can move from person to person.

## Where the data comes from

Reporting lines are populated from the manager and reporting information that arrives with your [user sync](/sections/documentation/platform/org-settings#security-sso-scim-and-domains) from connected identity providers and HR systems. If no reporting relationships have been synced yet, the org chart is empty until that data is in place.

<Tip>
  If someone's manager looks wrong or missing, correct it in the connected system that owns your people data. The next user sync updates the org chart.
