# Keyboard shortcuts

> Move around Serval and work through tickets, approvals, and Catalyst from the keyboard

You can do most things in Serval from the keyboard. This page lists the shortcuts by page. On Windows and Linux, use **Ctrl** wherever a shortcut shows **⌘**, and **Alt** wherever it shows **⌥**.

Press `?` to see the shortcuts available on the page you're on. Click outside any text box first, or the `?` is typed instead. You can also open the list from the profile menu at the bottom of the sidebar: select **Keyboard shortcuts**.

>
> Most shortcuts don't fire while you're typing in a text box, so pressing `C` in a reply types the letter. A few work everywhere, including `⌘K`, `⌘.`, and `⌘⇧U`.

## Global

| Shortcut | Action |
| :- | :- |
| `⌘K` | Open the command palette |
| `/` | Focus the search box on the current page |
| `C` | Create a ticket |
| `?` | Show keyboard shortcuts |

## Ticket list

| Shortcut | Action |
| :- | :- |
| `J` or `↓` | Move down the ticket list |
| `K` or `↑` | Move up the ticket list |
| `Enter` | Open the focused ticket |
| `X` | Select the focused ticket |
| `Shift+↓` / `Shift+↑` | Extend the selection down or up |

When a ticket is open in the detail pane beside the list:

| Shortcut | Action |
| :- | :- |
| `Shift+J` | Open the next ticket in the pane |
| `Shift+K` | Open the previous ticket in the pane |
| `Esc` | Close the ticket detail pane |

## Ticket details

These shortcuts work on an open ticket. A shortcut only works when its action is available to you, so some depend on your permissions and the ticket's state.

### Navigate and reply

| Shortcut | Action |
| :- | :- |
| `J` | Next ticket |
| `K` | Previous ticket |
| `R` | Focus the reply editor |
| `⌘.` | Switch between a public reply and an internal note |
| `⌘Enter` | Send the reply |

### Update the ticket

| Shortcut | Action |
| :- | :- |
| `Shift+A` | Assign the ticket to yourself |
| `A` | Assign to… |
| `S` | Set status… |
| `Shift+P` | Change priority… |
| `L` | Add label… |
| `D` | Change due date… |
| `P` | Set parent ticket… |
| `Shift+L` | Link with… |
| `Shift+M` | Merge with… |
| `Shift+T` | Move to another team |
| `Q` | Add to visibility group… |
| `Shift+D` | Archive or unarchive the ticket |
| `Shift+X` | Delete the ticket |

### Copy

| Shortcut | Action |
| :- | :- |
| `Shift+C` | Copy ticket ID |
| `⌘⇧C` | Copy link |
| `⌘⇧U` | Copy ticket UUID |

## Inbox

| Shortcut | Action |
| :- | :- |
| `J` or `↓` | Next notification |
| `K` or `↑` | Previous notification |
| `Y` | Approve the selected request |
| `N` | Deny the selected request |

## Catalyst

| Shortcut | Action |
| :- | :- |
| `⌘⇧O` | Open a resource in Catalyst |
| `⌘⇧A` | Attach a file |
| `⌘\` | Show or hide the Catalyst sidebar |

In the Catalyst chat, **Enter** sends your message. You can change this under **Chat input** in your profile settings.

## Turn off single-key shortcuts

If you use speech input, or find you press keys by accident, you can turn off shortcuts made of one letter, number, or symbol key.

1. Press `?`, or select **Keyboard shortcuts** from the profile menu.
2. Switch **Single-key shortcuts** off.

Shortcuts that use **⌘**, **Ctrl**, or **Alt** keep working. Shortcuts that add **Shift** to a single key, such as `Shift+A` and `?`, turn off too, so open the list from the profile menu while they're off.
